What is up with this smoking cessation money in the stimulus plan?
Why are they wanting to spend millions on smoking cessation when they want to expand SCHIP at the same time PAID FOR by cigarette tax? Isn't that counter-productive? I'm a democrat but this just makes no sense to me at all. I say choose one or the other.
tribeca_belle: I understand it would save money on healthcare, but I just hope they are able to fund the SCHIP some other way. I don't know where they will get the money if less people smoke when all the other stuff is yet to be paid for. In my opinion, it would be better to tax junk food more than cigarettes. The taxes on cigarettes are already so high many people I know roll their own because they are almost half the price.
