Ok, doing a very detailed paper on schizophrenia. Found in 2 different sources (as well as by my psych teacher) that Schizophrenia sufferers smoke more, due to a chemical in cigarettes that helps stabilize their delusions, ect. If you happen to know what chemical that is, it’d also be great, but what I really want ot know is WHY schizophrenic patients develop less medical issues from smoking, compared to smokers without schizophrenia? Currently Vietnam has several laws that govern the issue, but controls are so loose that old habits are proving hard to kick. For instance, the two most common issues of selling cigarettes to children and smoking in public places have been addressed with a total ban, yet punishment is seldom, if ever, enforced. The new draft is expected to provide strong enough regulations to foster anti-smoking strategy. According to the new draft, selling anything less than a packet of 20 cigarettes will be barred. The regulation aims at preventing children from buying single cigarettes, Quang said, adding that in other countries people can only buy whole packets of cigarettes, but in Vietnam people are accustomed to buying singles. This facilitates low-income earners and children into the habit, by making cigarettes available and affordable.
