I quit smoking 5 years ago (cold turkey) and I know it’s hard for many people to kick the habit. But the smoking cessation products are very expensive. Many people, especially those who are on a fixed income I’m sure can’t afford these things, or the cost is a serious deterrent to quitting.
My question is: if they were cheaper, do you think more people would quit? Do you think the government or other agencies (nonprofit groups, retailers, etc.) should step in and perhaps offer rebates or other incentives so people have more incentive and help quitting?
I think if the government cares about the health of its people and the environment they should offer assistance to people to help them to quit, after all there is help out there to get people off drugs, and cigarettes are more addictive than cocaine or heroin.
If you have any thoughts or insights about this topic, feel free to answer. Thanks, everyone!

i’m trying to quit smoking. 10 yrs – 1 pack ultra lights a day.
i’ve been using nicorette. it helps and i think i’m over the nicotine addiction, but the habit part of it i’m having trouble with .
has anyone tried a cessation class? how do they work? what do they do? how effective are they???
I stopped smoking August 1, 2007 after smoking for almost 25 years. I thought I was doing very well, but I was very irritable. The slightest thing would set me off, and I bought a pack of cigarettes yesterday (Oct. 15, 2007). I feel very weak and hate myself, but I do feel much more relaxed. I have heard of people who are physically/psychologically unable to quit. I know all of the tricks, tips, and suggestions; I have tried Zyban, Nicoderm CQ, Nicorette gum, and most recently, Commit, all to no avail. I also know it takes will power, but I am not my easy going self without the nicotine. Can anyone please help me overcome the almost violent urge to smoke?
