Are there herbs/teas/aromatherapy or other holistic methods to smoking cessation that you know of? How effective are these methods?

Hi there.
I read somewhere that distraction is a key to quitting. For example, the act of chewing on a toothpick, or on sugar cane, licorice or a straw, will help you get through a craving episode. Aromatherapy is also a possible holistic approach because of the relaxing effects of the aroma released into the air.
But the main thing to think about is that it really is all about you WANTING to quit. If you do, then it really is possible, if you simply reach into your subconscious mind and reprogram it to believe that your current status is that of a non-smoker. I say, current status, because you subconscious does not understand past or present — it only works in the present. Also, it doesn’t know how to interpret negative statements.
Let me give you an example. You can tell your subconscious that "I am a non-smoker", and it will obey as though that is truth. But if you reword it in a negative to say "I don’t want to smoke", all it hears, really is "I … want to smoke"..it’s just the way our subconscious mind works…if positive if moving forward, and negative is moving backward, consider that your subconscious is a one-way moving machine.
But how to reprogram? Yes, it is through self-hypnotic suggestion. But I am not suggesting you go and shell out hundreds of dollars to a hypnotherapist to get him/her to do what you can do for yourself.
I used to have problems with my weight, with pulling my eyebrows (I suffered from Trichotillomania) from biting my fingernails, etc. These were habits and conditions I simply didn’t feel I had any control over.
Then, one day, as I was pouring over some books at the local Borders bookstore, I came across a book entitled "Instant Self-Hypnosis" by Forbes Robbins Blair, and it showed me how I could simply become the thinner, freer person I wanted to be. The key to the techniques that he reveals in his book is not having to memorize complex or lengthy scripts to make this work. He found that simple act of reading aloud the induction and scripts was enough to put him in a light state of hypnosis and bring about change with the suggestions in the script. Please, for your own peace of mind, and since it will probably cost you only about $10 or so, get the book, and see for yourself. My mother, while she was alive, always told me "the proof of the pudding is ALWAYS in the eating." I can tell you it works, but when you try it for yourself, even if you’re skeptical (not cynical, but truly skeptical), you will see for yourself. Good luck, and best of success. Let me know if you have any questions, or if you want to discuss more offline. You can feel free to send me email regarding this.
